How LIFCO Helped a Niagara Food Kitchen Stay Open

Company News

Lifco helped Fresh Niagara Mushrooms keep its food-recovery kitchen open, supporting about 1,000 meals weekly for people facing food insecurity.

This article explains the challenge, why Lifco became involved, and how the contribution supported the local community.

Back in February, Niagara Region Public Health told Craig his home kitchen needed close to $12,000 in upgrades before he could keep serving: a commercial dishwasher, a dedicated hand-wash sink, and licensed installers to put it all in (not a small ask for a kitchen in a 1917 house). Lifco put a sizeable gift toward the equipment, Fraser figured it was basically helping out a neighbour in St. Catharines, and the kitchen passed inspection in May, so Craig is cooking again.

Fresh Niagara Mushrooms operates a food-recovery kitchen in the Niagara region, where surplus food is transformed into meals for people in need. Its work helps reduce food waste while providing valuable support to the local community.
