878 Series
The Chelsea 878 Series Power Take-Off (PTO) is an enhanced evolution of the proven 877 Series, designed to deliver greater durability and improved performance in demanding vocational applications. Built with a focus on reducing the effects of modern engine vibration, the 878 Series incorporates several structural upgrades to extend service life and improve reliability under load. Key enhancements include a ductile iron bearing cap that is 117% stronger than the previous gray iron design, along with an upgraded O-ring sealing system between the housing and bearing cap to improve clamp load and reduce vibration-related wear. In addition, the clutch pack has been significantly strengthened with steel discs that are 80% thicker than the previous generation, further improving durability in high-torque applications. Designed for both intermittent and continuous-duty use, the 878 Series delivers an impressive torque rating of up to 670 lb-ft, making it suitable for heavy-duty vocational environments where consistent performance is critical. The PTO features a constant mesh design with a rugged cast iron housing, rotatable flanges to help reduce clearance issues, and a positive stop driveline output that helps prevent oil seal damage from coupling movement. Optional Wet Spline lubrication technology can extend PTO and pump shaft life by 7–10 times through improved lubrication flow. Additional configuration flexibility includes nine speed ratios covering both low- and high-speed applications, and the unit is supplied with a hose as standard to simplify installation. The Chelsea 878 Series PTO is commonly used in snow and ice equipment, vacuum trucks, aerial platforms, and refuse applications where strength, reliability, and long service life are essential.
