288 Series

The Chelsea 288 Series Power Take-Off (PTO) is a 10-bolt constant mesh design engineered as an upgrade to the previous 287 Series. Built for continuous-duty performance, it features wider gears and larger capacity bearings, delivering a single continuous torque rating of up to 390 lb-ft. Key structural improvements include ductile iron bearing caps that provide 117% greater strength compared to gray iron components, along with an upgraded O-ring sealing system between the housing and bearing cap to improve clamp load and reduce vibration-related wear. These enhancements are designed to help mitigate the effects of modern and future engine vibration characteristics. The 288 Series also incorporates a positive stop design on the standard output shaft, helping prevent oil seal damage caused by driveline coupling movement. For additional durability, optional Wet Spline Technology helps reduce spline fretting and extends pump shaft life by maintaining a continuous flow of lubrication through the PTO and pump interface. Designed as a versatile constant mesh workhorse, the 288 Series supports nine speed ratios, including both low- and high-speed configurations, and features rotatable cast iron flanges to help reduce clearance issues. A hose is included as standard, eliminating the need for separate ordering. The Chelsea 288 Series PTO is commonly used in snow and ice equipment, vacuum trucks, aerial platforms, and refuse applications where reliability and continuous-duty performance are critical.
