The Chelsea 281 Series Power Take-Off (PTO) reflects Parker Chelsea’s ongoing commitment to developing advanced solutions for demanding vocational applications. As an evolution of the best-selling 280 Series, the 281 Series incorporates a range of durability and performance upgrades designed to address the stresses of modern and future engine designs. Key enhancements include a ductile iron bearing cap that delivers 117% greater strength than the previous gray iron design, improving overall structural integrity under high load conditions. An upgraded O-ring sealing configuration between the housing and bearing cap increases clamp load while helping reduce vibration-related wear. In addition, the clutch pack has been significantly strengthened with steel discs that are 80% thicker than the previous generation, improving resistance to premature tooth wear. The 281 Series is engineered specifically to reduce the damaging vibrational effects associated with modern powertrains, helping extend service life and improve reliability across a wide range of applications. Designed for versatility, it is commonly used in fire and rescue vehicles, truck cranes, pumper cleaner units, refuse trucks, and other heavy-duty vocational equipment. Additional features include rotatable cast iron flanges for improved pump clearance, a positive stop design for driveline outputs that helps prevent oil seal damage, and optional Wet Spline lubrication that can extend shaft life by 7–10 times. The PTO offers nine speed ratios and supports both low- and high-speed configurations. SmartStart technology helps reduce start-up shock loads in selected applications, while Electronic Overspeed Control (EOC) provides added protection for driven equipment. Built around a single continuous-duty torque rating, the Chelsea 281 Series delivers durability, protection, and flexibility in demanding operating environments.
